sign Str. 18-19: „K překladu svému užil jsem nejen důležitějších novějších vydání, nýbrž prohlédl jsem i všecky téměř opravné návrhy k textu Oresteie, vyšlé až do nejnovější doby. Jest jich na tisíce, ale prospěchu je z nich málo; jsou, | jak jest přirozeno, čím dále tím horší a méně pravdě podobné. Ježto text Aischylův v různých vydáních značně se liší, nemůže se překladatel držeti vydání jednoho, nýbrž musí si napřed text dle svého dobrého zdání upraviti. Úprava textu, jak jsem si ji provedl, patrna ze stručných poznámek kritických, přidaných po každém dramatě, které obsahují odchylky od kommentovaného vydání Weckleinova z roku 1888. Původce textových oprav nepokládal jsem za nutné jmenovati.
Vedle vydání a jiných pomůcek exegetických a kritických užíval jsem také obratného, ale neobyčejně volného německého překladu Wilamowitzova, jenž jest místo překladu vlastně někdy dost obšírným výkladem Aischylových slov a zastupuje, pokud k jednotlivým dramatům této trilogie Wilamowitz ještě svého výkladu nevydal, kommentář. S českými překlady staršími jsem i tento svůj překlad, jak to i jindy činívám, srovnal a leckteré obraty, hlavně z překladu Nebeského a Kočvarova, přejal; někde překlad můj souhlasí s předešlými holou náhodou. Je to na těch nečetných místech, kde překlad nabízí se sám sebou, a kde vlastně ani jinak překládati nelze.“
